Eastern Massachusetts Scouting for Food

Millions of Americans go hungry at some time every month. Hunger is a problem we can do something about by working together in the Scouting for Food Good Turn.

One of Scouting’s foundational principles is “doing a good turn daily.”  Scouts at all levels of our program participate in good turns and service projects.  Some of these are for a rank advancement, the most famous being the Eagle Scout project.  Others are being good citizens or environmental programs to make our neighborhoods and communities better places to live.

The Scouting for Food Good Turn is a massive food collection effort by over 30,000 youth and 10,000 volunteers in the 228 communities in Eastern Massachusetts. We have joined hands with local businesses and media in a massive community food collection good turn.

The Scouting for Food campaign will involve a door-to-door food collection effort by Scouts. On the first of two successive Saturdays, Scouts will distribute information door hangers throughout their designated area. The following Saturday the bags of food are to be collected and taken to local food pantries.

If you receive a door hanger, please make sure to leave your donations in a visible location outside your front door or by the base of your mailbox (please do not hang on or put in your mailbox) by 9:00 AM on Saturday, November 8, 2014. Please avoid donating glass items.

If you do not receive a door hanger or your items are not picked-up, please consider bringing donations to the collection site closest to you. Please place your donated items in plastic grocery bags or boxes.
